FAQ’s
-
I’ve never been a locum tenens provider. How does it work?
As a provider with Delta Locum Tenens, you work as an independent contractor. This means we set up a flexible schedule that meets your needs and the client’s needs. You can change your schedule on a monthly basis, as long as you provide a 30-day notice. Locums providers are paid weekly upon the receipt of an online timesheet you submit through our system.
You also have benefit of flexibility, so if an assignment doesn’t meet your scheduling needs, we can reassign you to another facility.
-
How do you assist with credentialing and licensing?
DLT’s credentialing agents help providers and the facility’s medical staff ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner. Our licensure department works with DEA boards to switch a provider’s DEA address, and helps providers obtain a medical license through our outsourced contacts. If you need assistance throughout this process, our teams are available during business hours.
-
What type of malpractice coverage is offered?
DLT providers receive $1 million/$3 million coverage for portable claims made. Portable means that it will transfer from carrier to carrier as long as the DLT provider is working. This coverage applies to any provider for each shift worked while booked with, and on assignment through, DLT.
-
I have my own malpractice insurance. Can I use that instead?
Unfortunately, no. Each physician working with us must pass the stringent guidelines of our A++ malpractice carrier. Four our protection and yours, we’ve purchased the best malpractice coverage possible.
-
Can I work for a facility on a permanent basis?
Most of our providers enjoy the flexibility of the locum tenens lifestyle, so this situation is rare. However, if you and the client agree the assignment should be permanent, you’re free to do so. Because our clients have already agreed to a placement fee, a permanent assignment will release you as an independent for this facility. From that point on, any scheduling, payments, etc. would be based on your contract with that facility.
-
Is there a minimum length for assignments?
No. While most locum tenens physicians prefer assignments that are at least five days, we successfully fill one-day or weekend assignments.
-
How do I get reimbursed for locum tenens coverage?
As an independent contractor, you’re responsible for submitting your online worklog every week (Monday- Sunday) by 5 p.m. on the Monday following the week worked. Once we receive your worklog, we’ll submit it to the client for approval. We ask clients to approve all provider times by 2 p.m. CST on Wednesday. Once this is complete, our payroll dept. will process your payment on the following Friday.
-
Who arranges travel and accommodations?
Our in-house travel department will arrange travel and accommodations for each candidate, passing the cost savings on to you. Or, if you prefer, you can coordinate your own transportation and lodging.
-
What if I need help after hours?
We’re available 24/7, so feel free to all. If you get voice mail, leave a quick message and someone will call you back shortly.
